As the month of June approaches, I find myself meeting with brides, planning the perfect wedding day celebration. Some brides are overwhelmed at the thought of planning the music for their ceremony and reception. Listening to and enjoying music and then deciding what songs to have in a wedding are two different things. I enjoy sitting down with the bride and groom, and listening to their story of how they met, what songs were special to them while dating, getting the back story on growing up with their parents and the special connections they share. All of these stories have a common thread, they bring back pleasant memories, for the most part. If a daughter has a special bond with her father, finding a song that brings back a memory from childhood, is a great song for a Father/Daughter dance at the reception. If there is a song that sums up a couple's dating years, what a great first dance song for them! If there is a song, from the time the grandparents and parents were dating and experiencing love, it's a great song for ushering in those folks to the ceremony. I love sitting at the piano, playing that perfect song and watching the grandparents just grin at each other while walking down the aisle...making a personal, emotional connection to a song, makes that day so memorable.
